I WAS interested in Alison Stephenson's article on the Tamar Valley Line (March 8) and to note that restoration of the Bere Alston-Tavistock link is envisaged during the coming franchise.

Only a short distance would then remain to link Tavistock back to Okehampton, from where the line exists to Exeter, to restore a main line service. Even with their present populations Tavistock and Okehampton should not be without a main line servce, but their populations are set to grow, and rail travel is also increasing in popularity.

I was disturbed to discover that a planning application has been made to build a house on the old LSWR track-bed behind Uplands. There should be an embargo on any further building on the track-bed.
