Liskeard RFC Ladies 12 Tavistock RFC Ladies 7 THIS game was played in sunshine, on the day the clocks changed for winter. Tavistock were nervous going into the match with injuries and illness affecting key players, including captain Sarah Daymond. Liskeard showed they wanted a physical game. Despite fine defence work from Tavistock, the home team squeezed in a try that many still think had been held up. But they missed the conversion. Tavistock fought back and played the rest of the half in the Liskeard 22. But the home girls were strong in defence and it took a superb individual effort from Robynne Honey to get the Tavistock try which she duly converted. The physical nature of the first half left both sets of players tired for the second half. It looked like stalemate with both sides making unforced errors. But the Cornish girls managed to steal a quick penalty that caught Tavistock on the back foot and pushed it outside for their winger to score and convert. Tavistock came within three metres of the opposition half in the dying seconds with a superb individual run from Paige McGechie but she was unable to offload the ball to support players. Despite their nerves at taking on the best team in the South West, Tavistock did themselves proud.

Liskeard and Tavistock 19 Paignton 10 THERE was a second game played on Sunday and despite having given an entertaining performance just half an hour before many of the Tavistock Girls joined forces with some of the Liskeard Girls to put out a team against a pack-heavy Paighton side. The Tamar team, as they became called, took on the Paignton girls with gusto. The rivalries of the first match were left behind and the best rugby of the day was seen in the first half. The outstanding player was Jenny Young from Tavistock. Scoring a brace of tries and converting two she showed why she could soon be gracing a national side within under 19s or England Students. She dominated the game and despite several South West players turning out for Paignton it was clear that they were not in her league.
