A RECENT report in ?The Times?, referred to five cases being pursued through the courts against local authorities which involved unsafe local roads. I do not know the details of these cases but the definition could well be applied to many of Tavistock?s roads where permitted and unofficial kerbside parking reduces the road width to a one way system. In particular this applies to Ford street, Watts Road, the bottom of Down Road, Parkwood Road, and Drake Road. In all these locations a two way flow of traffic is permitted, without any attempt to incorporate traffic control systems, or one way restrictions, and the only way to avoid collision is often to mount the pavement as the only way past the oncoming vehicles. Driving around Tavistock is a nightmare. Who is it that permits these dangerous situations to come about? In the event of an accident, we need to know where the responsibility lies for unsafe local roads. Peter Boyce 7 Roland Bailey Gardens Tavistock
