Tavistock Town 2

Callington Colts 0

Playing their first game at the new facilities at Crowndale, Tavistock enjoyed a deserved victory against Callington Colts that gives them the lead at the top of the league.

The opening was played out largely in midfield with few chances created by either side.

Callington rarely threatened Holland in the home goal. Northmore almost scored for Town when he rattled the bar with a free kick from distance, but soon after Tavistock took the lead through Panter. Panter collected the ball in the left back position and with clever play with Quick, beat three Callington defenders and broke into the away box to score from an acute angle. Town scored a second when Quick was on hand to fire home a rebound from the Callington keeper.

Tavistock continued to control the game in the second half. With Hicks and Hancock a constant threat to the Callington defence Lane and Northmore controlling the midfield. Tavistock had a number of chances to extend the lead but the visiting goalkeeper saved smartly. Callington were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for handball. The resulting kick flew over the bar.
