A WEST Devon hotel won the title of 'Best Foodie Hotel' at a recent magazine awards event.

Browns Hotel in Tavistock was voted for in the 'Food' Reader Awards, in association with Mole Valley Farmers and sponsored by Lex PR and Marketing, which names some of the best-loved food and drink businesses in the South West.

The hotel was said to be 'passionate in providing its customers the best in accommodation and food' with the 'finest dishes created from local produce supplemented with the best in beers, wines and lavish cocktails'.

In its first year, the Food Reader Awards received thousands of votes as South West consumers flew the flag for places where they love to eat, drink and shop across the region.

From best-kept secrets to foodie household names, consumers named the best foodie pubs, cafés, retailers, restaurants, hotels, local drinks, local chefs and local food products as well as their local food hero.

Browns proprietor Phil Biggin said: 'Browns is a little oasis providing wholesome and local produce in a discerning but reasonable way to meet the needs of those who visit us in Tavistock. We aim to serve our customers the affordable best.'

Jo Rees, editor of Food magazine, said: 'Our readers have spoken. The Food Reader Awards winners showcase the best-loved food and drink in the South West and proactive when it comes to meeting the different needs of the community. A worthy winner.'

The winners were announced earlier this month at a glittering awards ceremony at Abode Exeter.

The hotel also received two AA rosettes this month, the highest score that can be achieved at the first attempt.
