Tavistock Ladies 1

Plymouth and Marjons 5

PLYMOUTH opened up with strong attacking play and Tavistock had to work hard to keep them out of the D.

Sarah Barratt and Susannah Boulle for Tavistock made some strong tackles and coupled with Fiona Dunn and Lisa Butler at the back it was getting hard for Plymouth to break through. Goalkeeper Zoe Viggers saved some really good shots at goal while Laura Stapleton made some good interventions. Robynne Honey worked hard on the wing and linked well with Becky Lamb and Butler.

Tavistock had possession of the ball and were able to slip it up the pitch; Stapleton fed the ball up to Emma White who slipped the ball across to Barratt and this allowed Barratt to run into the 'D' and feed Honey the ball to slip past the keeper. It was 1-0 to Tavistock at half-time but Plymouth came back hard after the interval, catching Tavistock far too much off the pace of the ball.

Plymouth started scoring the goals as Tavistock were left completely outnumbered in the D. The visitors were quick to move the ball about.

Tavistock struggled to find something new to put up against Plymouth and the final score was a disappointing loss for the town ladies.

FROM the push back it turned out to be a physical game but Tavistock were the more skilled, playing the ball around well with some good two touch passing.

Killingbeck dominated midfield for Tavistock, spreading the ball well both left  and right. Gorman had some good runs down the left wing sending  many good crosses into the D — from one of these Tavistock got a short corner, resulting in their opening goal scored by Julia Firth. Judy Smallacombe scored Tavistock's second with a good strike from the top of the D. Martin played well holding possession well and passing the ball around the strong Plymouth defence — it was from this Tavistock scored their third with Martin taking a strike and Sue Gorman pushing it in from the post. Gorman scored Tavistock's fourth with a well worked move with debutante Gill Court putting a good cross into the D with Gorman finishing it off with precision.

Although Plymouth fought back in the second half Horton played well in defence for Tavistock not letting much past her aided by both Mills-Hick and Evans. Jenny Pollock had a good game breaking up most of the attacks that threatened Tavistock. University deservedly pulled  one goal back, with mounting pressure on the tiring home team. The defence held strong and a couple of excellent saves by captain Bridget Passmore kept the visitors at bay.

Camborne SOM 7

ATthe pre match pep talk, captain Gareth George told his players the game could be a promotion decider. With strong northwesterly winds and rainstorms the game began but within ten minutes, the lights throughout Tavistock went out, leaving the teams in darkness. 15 minutes later, the lights came back on and the game resumed. Camborne scored their first goal, followed shortly by another. Tavistock managed to claw back with a goal via a short corner by Lloyd Collins. Just before half-time, Camborne scored their third.

The second half started in much the same vein with torrential rain and strong winds which saw Camborne take the initiative with younger legs, scoring a further four goals and thus putting a dampener on Tavistock's game. Although Camborne won, Tavistock never gave in and pulled together with enthusiasm, team spirit and commitment to play to the final whistle.
