IT WAS a successful day for Okehampton Cycle Club members who took part in the Hayle triathlon in Cornwall last Sunday with four returning with prizes.

The youngest OKCC member 16 year old Rebecca Windemere was third junior female, Jacky Rice won first female in the 45-50 age category, Nikki Deane Simmons was second female in the 50-55 age category and Mike Gunnel was third male in the 60 plus age group.

The event consisted of a 750 metre sea swim, 20k cycle and 5k run.

Club member Tim Bridgeman recently organised a 100 mile bike ride on behalf of the CTC — the UK's national cyclists organisation — starting in Okehampton. An entry of 32 riders were lucky to have almost perfect weather conditions for riding such an event.

The challenging route incorporated some steep climbs and took in Chagford, Moretonhampstead, Dunsford, Crediton, Thelbridge, Chulmleigh, Torrington and finished in Sticklepath with a required completion time of between eight and ten hours.

Club members Garry Sprague, Andy Retter, Malcolm Chave, Andy Bowyer, Andy Stokes and Tim Bridgeman all successfully completed the ride within eight and a half hours.
