VERSATILITY and variety are just two of the many qualities demonstrated at Fairplace Church, Okehampton. The church recently held an At Home evening when a number of groups who use the church and church members were invited to come along and meet each other. The church premises are used by 21 outside groups for weekly meetings, as well as a variety of groups from within the church. An introduction given by the Rev Philip Wagstaff was followed by a demonstration from the Wren Trust which included their Song Tales. Roger Partridge gave a talk about the Courtenay Players, the Rev Sheila Scarr spoke about the work of local charities and two members of the Connect team provided light entertainment with an illustration of one of their school assemblies. Displays were provided by the Courtenay Players, the Flower Club, the League of Friendliness, the wives and friends, the Sunday Club, the Quaker Society, the Connect Team, the Wren Trust and Okehampton Choral Society. Refreshments were provided by church members in the Terry Bennet Centre. The evening was organised by the stewards and elders of the church and served to give a realisation on how versatile and open Fairplace church has become.
