THE Somerfield store on Brook Street, Tavistock, is being converted into a Co-operative food store with the new look being unveiled on Thursday April 14, following the completion of a £210,000 refit.
The conversion follows the Co-operative Group's £1.56-billion acquisition of the Somerfield supermarket chain in 2009.
The store is being transformed with contemporary décor, a new kiosk, a refurbished and relocated bakery, and a more spacious layout around the checkout area.
Additional chillers are being introduced for beers and wines, and other fixtures and fittings are being updated.
For the re-launch, the winners of an art competition from St Rumon's Infant School will be cutting the ribbon, to celebrate the re-opening of the new-look store.
The Co-operative will be staging a series of promotions on Saturday April 16 from 10am until 4pm.
Shoppers can try their luck on scratch cards for a chance to win prizes from the Co-operative's businesses, including travel vouchers, electricals and food vouchers, and they will have the chance to win their shopping in the store.
The store will close for refurbishment on Saturday April 9 and reopen on Thursday April 14.
Opening hours will remain 7am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
