A REFUSAL by West Devon Borough Council to allow a 60-bedroom care home to be built in Okehampton is to be challenged at an appeal.
The council's planning committee rejected the application in November on the grounds of overdevelopment and highways issues. Its decision had been against the advice of officers who said it would be difficult to refuse the principle of developing a brownfield site for this use.
Barnfield Commercial was applying to build a two-storey construction at Rondor, North Street, but it was felt by members that it would be an imposing and dominant building.
A previous plan for 32 homes on this land was turned down by the borough council and subsequently dismissed at appeal on the grounds of privacy and overlooking to neighbours.
