TAVISTOCK were outclassed in all areas of the game by a strong Crediton side. The home side had no answer for the pace and strength of the visitors' backs who received plenty of quality ball from

an equally well organised set of forwards. Despite a mounting score against them Tavistock did well to maintain their commitment and effort throughout and were unlucky to finish the game without any

points. Tavistock's perseverance created a couple of good opportunities in the second half, particularly from a good chip over the visitors defence by Mark Friend and towards the end when quick

handling by the Tavistock half backs enabled centre Tom Thursby to break the Crediton line only to be stopped just short of the try line. From the resultant ruck, prop Joe Hair forced his way over the line

but was denied a try as the referee was unable to confirm the grounding of the ball.

CREDITON made it clear in the opening minutes that it intended to use their overall size advantage with Tavistock quickly rising to the challenge with strong set piece scrummaging and swift

securing of the loose ball on the ground. Dominic Dewson and Sam Pluckrose for Tavistock were ever present with some ground breaking work from Martin Budden in the midst of rolling mauls. The first

try came from Chris Swash at inside centre finding a gap in the defences in the Crediton 22 Some weak tackling by Tavistock gave Crediton the chance to equalise in the latter part of the first half. The

second half showed two equally balanced teams fighting for possession and kicking for clearance with little sign of advantage as the game alternated between each 22. Tavistock were unlucky not to

secure a try when one crossing was deemed to be 'held up'. Crediton pulled ahead with a spectacular try originating from poor Tavistock handling within their opponents? five metre area during which the

ball was turned over, enabling a Crediton player sprint down the wing offload the ball for a team mate to run unopposed across the line. In the closing minutes, Tavistock turned the ball over from a

ruck in the corner of the Crediton 22 enabling the Frazer Bayliss, Chris Swash and Jonty Newton partnership to pass out to Henry Kisby for grounding under the posts. Tavistock's 100% conversion rate

made the crucial difference in the outcome of the game as Crediton's second conversion hit the posts. Tavistock deserved the win as on a number of occasions seized opportunities by backs and

forwards alike were repulsed by strong Crediton defences.

A BREAK in the wet weather saw a fast, running game played in goods spirit by both teams. The game kicked off with Tavistock?s Dan Dawes kicking deep and the quick ball won by the forwards

was the pattern for the day; the ball was moved wide to Matt Earp on the wing who went over the line only to be held up before grounding the ball. From the resulting scrum Dawes stepped inside his

opponent to score. This was followed by a further four tries in the first period scored by Finlay Ross and from prop Dan Parr who scored from the back of a maul for his first competitive try. Dawes then

added two more. In the second period Tavistock were dominant and despite valiant defending by Launceston, Tavistock's quick distribution and fluent interplay of passing in the backs proved difficult to

defend against. Glen Fuller, who strengthened the scrummage, made a break from inside his own half weaving through the defence to score a great individual effort. Charlie Wood drove upfield from the

restart and linked with Josh Birch on the wing before the ball was worked infield to Harry Eaton who capped a good game to score. The team try of the day was scored by Nick Bennett on the wing who

finished off a move that saw the ball move through the hands of most of the team. In the third period Launceston continued to work hard and several of the new players to Tavistock came to the fore

defending with passion and determination until Alex Madar scored in the closing stages. Aaron Dobie finished the game off on the final whistle taking a quick tap penalty before the defence could align

itself.

IT was a bright start from Tavistock who drove forward from the kick off and Dan Dawes at fly half immediately took the opportunity to score early points. From the restart, the Tavistock forwards

caught the high ball and kicked for territory Tavistock playing up the hill continued to dominate and scored again with Dawes running in his second to score in the corner. Tavistock were then in

defensive mode trying to keep Crediton out and the home side scored to make it 14-7 to the visitors at the break. Playing up the hill galvanised Crediton and their forwards exerted their strength. Good

loose play particularly from Aaron Dobie, Charlie Wood was evident in this period but Crediton scored two quick tries, one from a five metre penalty. Tavistock showed good spirit and

bombarded the Crediton line with attacks from Finlay Ross, Josh Birch and Harry Eaton. Finally, Josh Birch picked up loose ball and burst through a tired defence to score and square the game.
