BASKETS, tubs and pots filled with blooms in Tavistock?s streets came under the spotlight for the annual floral competition with six trophies presented to the winners. All the businesses in Paddons Row which took part in Tavistock In Bloom won awards for their frontage display which judges said ?draws the eye up the row, making it a wonderful secret garden.? The best mini garden display was won by April Cottage B&B for its ?delightful front garden? welcoming visitors entering Tavistock from the moors. Judges said Tavistock Inn had made the most of the side of its pub with a mini haven of tubs and planters utilising some fun containers and shielding their patrons from a busy street. It excelled in the category for best use of space. Crebers won the best shop display with its hanging baskets of ?excellent quality and colour? and St Rumon?s School Year 1 pupils were trophy winners in the youth section for a display on their notice board of flowers and corn in the impressionist style, taking inspiration from Monet and Van Gogh. This year, especially for the 900th Charter celebration, Tavistock mayor Jenny Metcalf donated an extra trophy for any floral display particularly catching the eye of the judges. The recipient of the Jenny Metcalf Charter Year Cup was Philip the Fishmonger. Judges were also impressed by displays at the Blacksmith?s Arms in Lamerton and the Ordulph Arms in Tavistock. They thanked all those businesses for taking part this year and adding to the beauty of the town. It is hoped that more will take part in the future.
