Premier League Cup First Round

Callington Town 4

Bodmin Town 3

IT was table toppers Bodmin who broke the deadlock on 20 minutes by scoring. But it was not until the fifth minute of the second half that the game exploded into goals.

Matt Reid whipped in a cross which Chris Truscott met with a firm header into the net.

Five minutes later, Luke Avis-Riordan repeated Reid?s act on the right and his low cross into the area was met by Truscott who fired past the town keeper to put his side ahead.

Back came the visitors and they were on level terms within 10 minutes.

With 20 minutes to go, Callington regained the lead after Pete Floyd chased down a defensive but the visitors pounced on a bit of defensive hesitancy by Callington to level matters at 3-3.

With the game moving into injury time, and the spectre of a further 30 minutes looming Floyd?s run on the right was ended by a stray leg in the area.

Floyd himself stepped up to fire home the resultant spot kick to send his team through to the last eight.

Division Two

Callington Town 1

Newmoor Rovers 0

A SOLITARY goal from Nathan Dore settled this match but the result hid the true story as Callington at last found their feet against high flying Rovers and recorded their first victory of the season.

It was especially good to see a clean sheet in the goals against column for Town with Richard Corfield in goal being ably assisted by Tom Reid at the centre of defence.

Callington will need to take this victory with them as they travel to Pelynt who are lying just a few places above them in the league on Saturday.

CALLINGTON produced a seven goal second half onslaught to inflict a heavy defeat over the visiting Plymouth side.

In the second half, the Red & Blacks were soon into their stride and the visitors had no answer to their superior skills.
