AN appeal for consideration by car drivers is being made by Callington Town Council which is getting a barrage of complaints from residents concerning parking problems. Town estates are becoming congested with parked cars with Guipavas Road, Trelawney Road and Zaggy Lane particular hot spots, council members said last week. Councillors said these roads were effectively single track and were potentially accident blackspots. They are appealing for people who come to the town to work to use a free car park in Saltash Road. ?Guipavas Road has 200 houses and that is a considerable population having to use one road in and one road out,? said Cllr Andrew Long. ?Drivers need to be more considerate and use the car park, even if it might be a little further to walk. Yellow lines were not the solution because they pushed the problem elsewhere, councillors concluded. Cllr Sue Nettle said her husband, Tony, who was a county councillor, was constantly getting phone calls from residents about the parking situation. Councillors said the problem was exacerbated these days by the amount of houses that were being built without adequate parking space, forcing people to park on the roads. They agreed to write to the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to highlight the wider issue of inadequate parking and the essential need for the motor car in rural areas.
