THREE members of Tavistock Swimming Club took part in the recent Junior Aquathlon held at Queens College, Taunton.
This event attracts some of the country's best young talent and on the day there were about 100 participants. The aquathlon event is a continuous race using the two disciplines of swimming and running. The athletes enjoyed near perfect conditions for the race on the day, supported by their family and friends.
Emily Attfield, 11, competed in the Tristar 2 Girls (11-12) and was up against top athletes. Emily had a great race, she had to swim 280 yards in the pool, and then run 2000m, she finished in second place, a tremendous achievement.
Pete Jarman, and Stephen Attfield, both 13, took part in the Tristar 3 Boys (13-14) and both of them competed well.
Pete had a good swim, followed by a quick transition, then the 3000m run, finishing in 4th place.
Stephen Attfield is a new member to Tavistock Swimming Club, and this was his first attempt competing in an Aquathlon.
He is showing tremendous promise and determination, and did well coming in at 10th place.
For Emily and Pete this event marked the end of the competitive season of triathlon. They have both have a successful season and will continue to train throughout the winter.
Emily and Pete are also members of Tavistock Athletic Club and they wish to thank everyone for their help in training.
