CONSERVATIVES in West Devon and Torridge have officially re-adopted Geoffrey Cox, MP as their prospective parliamentary candidate. Mr Cox, who was first elected as MP in 2005, said he was ?absolutely delighted?. ?For the last two years I have had the great privilege to represent all of the people in West Devon and Torridge in the House of Commons and to bring their voice to the attention of the Government. ?It is truly an honour to have been entrusted with your confidence again. I shall continue to fight with as much fortitude and persistence as I can for the vital interests of our constituency. ?I am confident that the party can build upon its success at the last general election and, while I anticipate it will be a hard fight, I will be working tirelessly to increase the Conservative majority and to ensure a change of government whenever Mr Brown sees fit to call an election.? Association chairman Mrs Peggy Maughan said members were delighted that Mr Cox would contest the seat again. ?Geoffrey has quickly built up a reputation as an approachable hard working MP who listens and understands. ?He is seen all over the constituency, helping people and supporting local organisations. ?We hope that his next parliamentary majority will reflect his deep and sincere commitment to serving all in West Devon and Torridge, regardless of any other consideration.? Mr Cox?s majority at the last election was just over 3,200 but the seat will be fought on new boundaries at the next election ? eastern areas of the constituency will be part of the new Central Devon seat.
