CONSERVATIVES in South East Cornwall have selected their prospective candidate for the next General Election. Sheryll Murray, leader of the Conservative Group on Caradon District Council, will be fighting to oust the Liberal Democrats and seize the seat for the first time since 1997 — it is currently held by Colin Breed, who has a majority of 6,507. Mrs Murray was the only woman on the shortlist of four and was chosen by the method in which local party members alone choose their candidate — an option introduced by Tory leader David Cameron. It was the first time the method had been used nationally since its introduction. Mrs Murray represented fishermen from the South West at local, national and European level before turning to local government. She has served as the county councillor for Rame and is currently the district councillor for Millbrook. She said she was looking forward to the challenge of fighting the seat.
