Whitchurch v Chelston 2nd XI

WHITCHURCH rounded their season off with a good victory away at Chelston. Invited to bat first, the Wayfarers made steady progress against some fine swing bowling from Milnes (2-44). Stoke made good headway while runs the other end were hard to come by.

Hudson then ripped the heart out of the middle order, taking three quick wickets. Stokes soon followed for 47, leaving Whitchurch reeling at 102 for 7 with 11 overs still to bat.

Stuart Davies, playing his final match for the club before moving away, answered his team's call with a quick fire 48, ably assisted by Tamblin (22); they added 67 for the eighth wicket. Tamblin and Horler then added 23 for the ninth wicket as Whitchurch posted a total of 190-8.

An aggressive bowling spell from Sambells set Whitchurch on their way, the youngster taking 2 for 30 to reduce Chelston to 38 for 3. A crazy run out and a wicket for Ingram then had Chelston further in trouble, until Hudson (21) and Milnes (38) rescued the innings. With 15 overs to go the match was finely poised.

A fine catch from Heatley off Woodrow created the much needed breakthrough, the spin partnership of Tamblin and Woodrow (4-18) then ripping through the Chelston tail dismissing the home side for 145.

Whitchurch closed the season with 19 points and finish in the top three in their first season in the Devon League.

On Sunday Whitchurch have their final game of the season when the Chairman's XI take on the club. The match starts at 1pm.
