Devon League Second XI D (west)

Whitchurch 2nd XI v Keyham and Buckfastleigh 2nd XI

WHITCHURCH recorded an impressive victory against the current table toppers. The home side won the toss and invited Bucks to bat first on a flat wicket.

Robjohns (24) and P Voaden (32) added 60 for the first wicket, before Robjohns holed out to a good catch in the deep by Sambells, off Tamblyn (2-37).

The introduction of young spinner, Woodrow (2-26) saw Bucks collapse to 82-6. However, solid batting from Johns and Richards frustrated the Whitchurch bowlers.

As the overs ran out, Johns slogged his way to 74 before being run out by a direct hit from Freedman, Bucks closing on 196-7.

Whitchurch also got a good start with Faulkner (21) turning the ball exquisitely. At 43-2 however Whitchurch were in a spot of bother.

Solid batting and good running between the wickets between Stokes and Heatley eased the pressure.

The Bucks lack of bowling depth was then exposed as both Stokes (52no) and Heatley (74no) played shots all around the ground.

An unbroken third wicket partnership of 155 saw Whitchurch home by 8 wickets.
