LAST October the Tamar Valley Jazz Association had an evening of jazz which can only be described as world-class, when it presented the American guitarist Howard Alden alongside trombonist Roy Williams. It continues that quality this month with a visit from a London-based quartet of experienced professional musicians. The group is led by top saxophonist Pat Crumly who plays alto, tenor and flute. He is best known for his role in the Ronnie Scott Legacy band which for five years entertained Scott?s fans around the world. Pat has worked with a broad range of artists from both the jazz and blues/rock field, and along the way has led groups of all sizes. Joining Pat in the band is Nick Weldon ? one of the best known composers and pianists on the scene; Originally from the USA, Tim Wells on bass has toured extensively around the world and played alongside national and international musicians; Mark Fletcher has been a drummer for 28 years and worked with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Harry Edison. Released a year ago the quartet?s first CD ?Weaver of Dreams? ranges from bop, 21st century style through to mood jazz and has been described by critics as dynamic. Catch this excellent group at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock on Friday, January 21 at 8pm for an enjoyable winter?s evening. Details: 01822 833706/ 07767420076.
