A TOP international reporting award has been won by a former Callington Community College pupil.
Polly Fields, 25, was one of only five applicants out of almost 500 to receive an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Young Reporters Awards.
Polly impressed the judges with her 20-minute radio documentary about the life of the only female streetcar racing team in the West Bank city of Ramallah. She produced the piece of work while undertaking a masters degree in International Journalism at University College, Falmouth.
The young reporter will spend a week in Liberia with ICRC delegates, talking to young people affected by armed conflict and will then travel to Geneva in May, with the other winners, on the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day, to present their reports.
The ICRC said the winners stood out, not only because of the quality of the projects they submitted, and the communication skills they displayed, but also because of their humanitarian engagement and their ability to reach out and connect to other young people.
