GOOD weather brought lots of spectators to Saturday’s Whitchurch sheepdog trials.
Those who turned out for the event saw a high quality event as well as the many stalls and refreshments on offer.
There was great success for Postbridge’s Jed Watson who secured victory in two classes.
In the novice Maltese cross class Jed was first with his dog Zac with 58 points, securing the Tom Brown Cup. Alan Bennett from St Austell came second with Gwen getting 51 points. Brentor’s Julie Tucker and Fleet were third on 48 and Peter Symons and his dog Fly from Cornwood came fourth with 43 points.
Jed and his dog Taff won the open Maltese cross class with 90 points. North Tawton’s Bob Watson and dog Max came second with 89, third was Alan Bennett and Kate with 74, Julie Tucket and Gem were fourth with 73 points, Postbridge’s Kenny Watson and dog Matt came fifth with 72 and Veryan’s Mark Hopper and Zac came sixth with 58 points.
In the open driving the winner was Dave Cole of Ivybridge with Sanduck Moss, scoring 83 points to secure the George Colton Cup. Jane Harper and Meg from Jacobstowe were second on 82, third was Lustleigh’s Ian Mackay and Sanduck Pip on 80, Veryan’s Trevor Hopper and Tweed were fourth on 79, Norman Delgarno and Roy from Tregony came fifth with 78 and Jane Harper and Scruff were sixth on 74 points.
The Madeleine Waycott Cup for the best outrun lift and fetch of the day went to Bob Watson and Max.
