North Tawton Res 4

Bampton 0

TAWTON started strongly and dominated play keeping Bampton in their half.

Tawton put plenty of set plays together and came close when Richard Keast hit the upright. It was not long before Stuart Bragg scored from ten yards after good build-up play from midfield.

Tawton carried on controlling the game and on half-time Richard Keast was running rings around Bampton defence, slipping around the keeper to make it two.

In the second half Tawton stepped up the pace and at times Bampton came forward but good defending from Kevin Milis, Graham Squires, Ian Simons and Mike Keast kept them at bay.

With 20 minutes left confusion in the Bampton goal saw Mille Quick flick a cheeky ball over the keeper?s head.

Bampton did not give up and fought to the end but this left them exposed and let Bragg in to score a good solo goal and Tawton?s fourth.

Man of the match: Stuart Bragg.

Winkleigh 1

AN end to end game but Tawton started off on the back foot with plenty of pressure from Winkleigh. It was not long before confusion cost Tawton a goal.

Confusion almost cost Tawton another goal, but brave keeping from Alan Grimshaw kept them alive.

With 20 minutes left Tawton settled their game and this allowed them to move forward. Chris Fields whipped in an awkward ball into the penalty area leaving Winkleigh?s defence struggling to get rid of the ball only to see it fall at Stuart Bragg?s feet ? at close range he was not going to miss.

In the second half Tawton came out hungry for victory, but both teams played a scrappy half. On the 70th minute Oliver Webber shot 20 yards only to be denied by a good save from the Winkleigh keeper hitting onto the crossbar and off the line.

The game seemed to be going nowhere. Then Richard Keast scored the most important goal in his career when he hit an acute shot from 30 yards on the left wing, lobbing the keeper.

Tawton were on a high but Winkleigh did not stop putting pressure on. Mike Keast defended well and Tawton held on to win the league.

Man of the match: Mike Keast.
