WEST Devon independent meat sellers Meat Dartmoor will be hosting a food festival with a difference this month.

Meat Dartmoor is a small group of independent Dartmoor farmers, established in 2004, who work together to sell meat and communicate with the public.

The farmers have become concerned that there are whole generations who have never been shopping for meat and do not know how to cook, which is why they have decided to stage a food festival.

There will be no celebrity chefs teaching people how to cook expensive fillet steak or something that will be difficult to source, instead the Meat Dartmoor wives will teach visitors how to cook with the cheaper cuts of meat and what to buy. There will be sample dishes to try and recipes on offer to try at home.

Visitors will learn how to make a pasty, a jar of jam or a Victoria sponge, as well as different simple meat dishes. The event will be family-friendly with light refreshments on offer and free entry.

The food festival will take place on Sunday, October 14 in Postbridge Village Hall from 10am to 3pm.

The East Dart Hotel will be cooking a Dartmoor carvery and holding a beer festival in conjunction with the food festival.
