FOR the second time in two years, a member of Lewdown CC has won a prestigious Nat West OSCA (Outstanding Services to Cricket Award).

Following in the footsteps of his son Brenden, who won last year, Tony Worth has this year won the Devon OSCA for Nat West Cricket Force and will now travel to the home of cricket, Lords, in October for the national finals and dinner.

Six years ago Tony project-led the erection of a brand new sports pavilion at Lewdown CC. This year, he has again project-led, with a new clubroom added, refurbishment to the current building to allow umpire changing rooms, disabled toilets and increased storage.

Half the funding was gained from Biffa, however the remaining 50% was sourced by Tony in way of volunteer labour from local businesses, community and volunteers.

A spokesman for Lewdown CC said: 'The pavilion is the envy of most, and its legacy is that the club can now start to be self generating when it comes to funds. Many social events have already been held there and the bar and food takings all help sustainability.

'It is also a wonderful location to view cricket, relax, hold events and will be there for many years.'

The local businesses and volunteers are now part of this community club and will hopefully continue to provide annual repeat sponsorship.

Each year Tony raises in the region of £5,000 from local businesses for the club in the ongoing drive to maintain and drive forward new developments.

Tony's vision, dedication and inspiration is responsible for the wonderful facility that is Lewdown CC Pavilion – enjoyed by members, visitors and the local community.

Tony and fellow nominees and family members Eileen and Brenden Worth, attended Somerset CCC for the presentation ceremony and to watch Somerset defeat Lancashire.

Devon Cricket Board said that Lewdown CC was extremely fortunate to have such dedicated and hard working members, allowing for such a well-run club and wonderful facilities.
