NASHVILLE singer- songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman spent a day at Callington Community College sharing her experiences with students recently.
The Grammy nominee wrote Faith Hill's smash hit 'This Kiss' and has also written for Elton John, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and Trisha Yearwood along with many other country stars.
Beth was in the UK for a short tour promoting her latest album. 'The Mighty Sky' is a diverse collection of songs in different styles, each one referring to a different astronomical fact and, in her words, "written to inspire, to teach, and to remind us of the Universe's stunning mysteries.'
During the day Beth worked with students at the college on a workshop focussing on songwriting and performance. After an afternoon session with science and music teachers she rounded off her visit with a community performance at the college.
Despite losing her voice (for the first time in 21 years) Beth played guitar and used examples of songs from her new album and back catalogue to describe her writing methods and her sources of inspiration.
Director of Music, Adrian Balletto said: 'There is nothing better than students working with a successful and inspirational professional like Beth.
'They have all really responded well and appreciated this opportunity.
'We are really looking forward to her next visit when we hope she can follow up their progress.'
