ESSENTIAL tree works will be carried out at a much-loved woodland area in Okehampton later this month.
Tree experts will move in on Old Town Park near Okehampton Castle to top and lop the woodland area along the footpaths and tracks.
The site is mainly of oak trees ? some up to 200 years old ? and is looked after by West Devon Council.
Several surveys have been carried out in the area identifying important flora and fauna in the woodlands.
Tree surgeons will be working in the area for more than a month.
David Chapman, the council?s landscape officer, said that the work will preserve the future of the woods for visitors for many years to come.
He said: ?Only essential work is being undertaken and will cause as little inconvenience to users of the wood as possible.?
