AWARDS and accolades are driving success at a West Devon garage. Spreyton's Highfield Garage has won two awards from the country's top motoring organisations in recognition of the 'outstanding' services it provides. It has received the AA Contractor of the Year finalist award for 2008, coming in ahead of more than 270 other contractors across the country. The garage won the accolade for services it provides to AA members. The AA monitored the garage throughout the year and judged it on aspects such as its speed in reaching breakdowns, the number of vehicles fixed at the roadside and the general day-to-day services provided by the garage. Highfield was also named South West runner-up in the RAC Regional Contractor Partner of the Year 2007 competition. Started in 1982, the garage has always been based in Spreyton parish and is run by directors, Jon and Lizzie Cox. Said Jon: 'I'm delighted with the awards that recognise the hard work of all the team of employees at Highfield Garage. 'It's a good achievement because we're quite a small business and some of the people we were up against employ hundreds.' The services offered at the garage include repairs, MOT, tyres, breakdown and recovery and vehicle diagnostics. The family run business employs fourteen people, provides a 24-hour breakdown service in a 20-mile radius and is used by the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and the military.
