A POPULAR postman from Gulworthy has retired after 45 years of service with the Post Office. Tony Luccombe, 61, started working with the post office when he was just 15 as a telegram boy in Plymouth, and then worked on the vans in the city. Then around 1986 to 87 Tony moved to Bere Alston and delivered the post to the Weir Quay area on the Bere Peninsula. In 1995 he was moved to the sorting office in Tavistock. Tony retired on Friday, September 28 and intends to enjoy his two fishing boats which he uses for sea fishing. When asked what he will do during his retirement, he said: ?Not much ? spend time in Spain as I have friends over there, it?s also a warmer climate.? Tony said he would miss the ?good crowd of guys? he works with, but joked that he is not going to miss the 6am starts at work. Delivery office manager Jeremy Allin, who has worked with Tony for three years, said: ?He was quiet and conscientious. He would come in every day and would get on with his work ? he was one of those unsung heroes. He will be sadly missed.?
