Tavistock Golf Club, led by captain Tony Sherlock, regained the Three Captains Trophy for the first time in six years after beating their rivals from Bigbury and Yelverton Golf Clubs at Tavistock. Each club fielded 12 players comprising their respective captain, vice captain, club professional, secretary and eight others, who competed in three man teams in a Stableford competition over 18 holes. Tavistock?s winning total score was 379 points, Yelverton had 360 and Bigbury 347. Dominic Rehaag, Tavistock?s club professional, achieved the highest individual score with 38 points, and one of Tavistock?s teams, Mike Apps, George Rumbold and Steve Ryder, scored the highest three ball team tally of 106 points. The best individual score by an amateur was made by Stuart Barnes from Yelverton with 37 points. The three clubs have competed annually for the trophy since it was instigated in 1981 by their then captains. Battling adverse weather conditions and some tough pin positions, Mike Coles scored a net 73 to win the Tavistock Veteran?s Medal trophy on July 13. Dave Libby was second on a count-back with a net score of 76, and Ken Coles was third. Players enjoyed much better conditions the following day for the monthly medal when some excellent scores were posted and Sean Kiley hit his second hole in one in two weeks. The results were: division 1 ? 1, Paul Whitby 65 (net), 2, Graham Ruth 67, 3, Luke Wakley 69; division 2 ? 1, David Bryant 67, 2, Des Easterbrook 68, 3, Andrew Page 69; and division 3 ? 1, John Heywood 64, 2,Gary Williams 69 and 3, Rod Jago 70.
