North Okes 8 Crediton 3rds 25 THE combination side of North Tawton 2nds and Okehampton 3rds which is North Okes faced a mixed team from Crediton. The North Okes team included older and young players from the two clubs, with a number of replacements hoping for a game. Crediton fly-half Mornay Scheepers created a break and fed a long pass to left wing Lee Furze who scored the first try for Crediton within the first few minutes. The conversion was missed. North Okes came back into the game immediately, and dominated play in the Crediton half with the scrum beginning to provide some good ball for scrum-half Malcolm Fewings to work with. The pressure was relieved for Crediton by a good break out following a scrum and a long kick down field. An unlucky bounce left defending full-back Fewings wrong-footed and allowed Crediton?s Nick Lecharpentier to gather and race in for a try, against the run of play. The conversion attempt failed leaving the score at 10-nil to the visitors after about 20 minutes. From the re-start North Okes went back on the offensive. On his second penalty attempt fly-half Tom Davis converted to give North Okes their first 3 points. Play swung back to Crediton?s advantage and good defensive work by North Okes winger Barry Down was needed to keep them from scoring soon after the re-start. North Okes worked their way back into the Crediton half and this phase culminated in an excellent loose maul which was turned into a drive by the forwards, urged on by scrum-half Fewings. They carried the ball about 20 metres and drove over the line to allow Malcolm Fewings to touch down for a well-worked try, which was not converted. Just before half time Crediton?s Scheepers extended the score to 13-8 with a drop goal. Crediton were starting to exert some dominance in the match and their scrum was competing well in the set plays. In the final phase the Crediton pack was back in charge and after two attempts at the try line, one of which was thwarted by good tackling by winger Rob McBain, they finally crossed the North Okes? line. A ball squirted out of the side of a retreating 5-metre scrum and Crediton?s Martin Peters dived onto it; this final try was converted by Scheepers to leave the score at 25-8 to Crediton.
