READERS, the 'Silent Army' of local litter pickers, the Tidy Tavi Team and council staff may be pleased with a comment I heard from an officer from the Environment Agency, whom I met during a site visit in Plymouth this week.

I mentioned the volunteers in and around Tavistock who actively clear up litter to make Tavistock Tidy.

The officer commented that Tavistock's volunteers do make a difference and that by clearing plastic bags and rubbish from culverts and ditches the flood risks are reduced significantly.

A visitor commented that 'Tavistock looks really tidy and cared for'.

Tidy Tavi, now in our second year of regular litter picking, have the delight of seeing bulbs and plants growing in areas which were covered feet-deep in litter last year.

There is support from the Times, the councils and most of the community. I just wanted to share some positive news.

Together we are making a difference.
