THE first event of the Okehampton Cycle Club summer 10 mile time trial series from Bridestowe to Lewdown and back on the old A30 road took place recently. There was a good turnout of 11 cyclists including a contingent of very welcome guest riders from Tavistock Wheelers Cycle Club. Steve Podd made clear his intention to retain the points winner trophy that he won last year by achieving the best time of the night, clocking 26.55 with Steve Cox second with 28.08 and Dan Pearce third with 28.59. Club member Jacky Rice has been active recently taking second place in the woman?s veteran category of the national RTTC Rudy Project time trial series with a time of 1.27.32. The hilly 28 mile course started and finished at Tavistock via Blackdown to Sourton, Lewdown, Chillaton and Lamerton. She also competed in the Taunton Spring Triathlon and won the veteran lady category.
