AN exciting event to help people in the Okehampton area become 'More Active, More Often' takes place on March 15, organised by the 5X30 Project. Following the success of the first two Network events in Tiverton and Crediton, the 5X30 Project is inviting anybody who is keen to get involved in activity in the area to contact them for a place at the event. The main aim is to help spread the message that in order to maintain good health, an adult should do 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, five times a week, — an hour a day for children and teenagers. With this in mind, people who provide activities, community venues and work for local organisations that can help will be able to learn about the project, its grants and available support, and meet each other to discuss how more activities could be set up for everyone in their community to enjoy. Those who attended the events in Tiverton and Crediton are now part of the 5X30 Network, and have pledged to do all sorts of things to get activities going in their communities. Activities now being set up include yoga, church-bell ringing and cycling clubs. The events tie in with the recent launch of the new 5X30 website, which gives updates on the project and advice and information on doing your own 5X30. People can also contact the Okehampton Area community activator on 07967 179662 for more information.
