PEOPLE are being invited to help frighten away the evil spirits at the annual Bere Ferrers Apple Wassailing Night this Saturday.

Participants of the wassailing night, in aid of Devon Air Ambulance, will frighten evil spirits away to ensure there will be a good apple crop this year.

As part of the ancient ceremonies, food will be hung on the branches to attract birds to the trees, and entertainment will be provided by Dartmoor Morris Dancers and the Tavy Tars.

The evening will take place at Bere Ferrers Church Hall and the adjacent Community Orchard from 6.30pm this Saturday, January 8. Tickets, £5 and children free, must be obtained in advance from Margaret on 01822 840380.
