RESULTS November 7: Division one: The Mixtures were at home to North Wyke in a hard fought match, The Mixtures won 7-3. In the first game Karen Stephenson just beat Paulo Dumont 11-5 in the 5th leg, North Wyke levelled at 1-1, in another 5th leg Steve Granger beat Loraine Robinson 14-12. In the 5th Sarah Jackson beat Jill Whiteley in the next and then went on to complete a fine maximum. North Wyke did well to take 5 sets to a 5th leg decider.
The second match Bridestowe were at home to Tavistock who pulled off the first 1—0 win with maximums for Fred Phillips, Roger Bowkett and Martin Fowler. Bridestowe only had 2 players Phil Down Took Fred Phillips to 5 legs and Francis Griffiths also took Martin Fowler to a 5th leg decider.
In division two Anchorage were at home to Okehampton C in a competitive match with good rallies. Okehampton C ran out 8-2 winner Frank Cockburn who scored a hard fought maximum ably supported by Martin Rose with 2 wins. Richard Rose with one. Roger Gilbert took Frank to 4 legs just losing out 9-11, 11-13, 11-8, 8-11. Richard Rose fought hard against Roger in a thrilling game just winning 11-9, 13-15, 5-11, 11-6, 9-11. In the next match Milton Abbot B were at home to Okehampton B. In another hard fought match Okehampton finally ran out 10-0 winners but Milton Abbot fought hard. In their first year in the league Bob Evans took Kieran Coyle all the way just leaving out 7-11 in the 5th leg, he also took Dick Randell to a 5th leg losing out 9-11. In the doubles Bob and Ben Evans just loosing out to Harry Bryant and Keiran Coyle 11-13, 4-11, 10-12.
In division one points were awarded to Okehampton A over Calstock who could not raise a team.
Division one results November 14: Another 10-0 win for Tavistock over Academy A Roger Bowkett winning the first against Tom Pearce in 4 legs. Martin Fowler won the next against Ben Hill also in 4 legs. Peter Hicks beat Tom Pengelly to put Tavistock 3-0 ahead, Although Academy played well the more experienced Tavistock went on to take the next 6 singles and Fred Phillips and Roger Bowkett won the doubles for another maximum win.
The next division one match North Wyke against Okehampton A who were too good beating Wyke 10-0, only 2 games went to 4 legs, Paulo Dumont took John Squire to 4 after loosing the first leg, John took the next 3 easily. Paulo took Nick Jackson to a 4 again winning the first leg then went down in the next 3.
Barry Denner playing his first league match this season won all 3 singles and joined John in the doubles beating Steve Granger and Paulo for a convincing 10-0 win.
In division two Milton Abbot played Anchorage who raced into a 3-0 lead Michael Blatchford lost the first 9-11 in the 5th leg against malcolm Hopkins. Tim Westcott went down against Dave Wilson also in 5th 13-15 Ian Usborn last in the 4 legs against Colin Jones. Tim Westcott pulled one back against Malcolm 11-0, 11-13, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 Milton A fought back to level 4-4 then win the last singles and doubles for a 4-4 win.
The last division two match, Okehampton B played the new team from Horrabridge. Harry Bryant won the first against R Newcombe and Dick Randell won the next but was taken all the way just wining 11-6. In the 5th leg R Newcombe went on to win his next 2 singles against Dick and Kieren Coyle. D Vanstone won the last singles against Hary Bryant to make the score 6-3 to Okehampton who won the doubles. Harry and Keiran beat R Nevill MBE and D Vanstone in straight sets for a 7-8 win for Okehampton.
