Callington Ladies 1
TAVISTOCK Ladies Seconds met Callington Ladies for the home leg of their league fixtures on Sunday. The previous attempt to play was hampered by ice, but this wasn't the case on this bright Sunday afternoon.
The game threatened to be a tense affair as Callington hoped to even the score after Tavistock beat them on their home ground earlier in the season. The game was very much an end to end affair, with both sides evenly matched. After an initial run of play from Tavistock, Callington were the first on the scoreboard, scoring from a short corner.
Tavistock slowly gained confidence and momentum. There were some great strings of play with the midfield linking well with the forwards, resulting in Tavistock evening up the score, when a cross into the D was finally converted by Judy Lowton. Tavistock continued to build up the pressure from midfield, with the defence gallantly resisting attacks from Callington. This pressure was rewarded after a long corner resulted in a successful shot on goal from Becca Martin.
The second half saw Tavistock maintain the pressure but without further reward. There were a number of near misses, but they were unable to breach the Callington defence. All in all it was a good performance from a mixed seconds team. Special note for the three Kelly College girls making their debuts, Philippa, Molly and Eve, who really found their confidence through the game and made a great contribution to the overall performance of the team.
