Tavistock Tigers 0 Ashton 6 TAVISTOCK were keen to avenge their 7-6 defeat to Ashton in their first game of the summer league season, but this was not to be. Ashton started with the greater sense of purpose and penetration in attack. They raced into a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes as Tavistock struggled to find their feet. Despite a lot of running, the attack of Eadie, Armstrong and Miller saw little of the ball with mainly long balls being played forward. Tavistock came closest to scoring when Mackintosh struck the near post after he fashioned himself a rare chance. Midfield debutants Ali and Doney were constantly being hassled and did well to hold on to possession. The defence of Passmore, Costello and George were under pressure as Ashton went four goals up from a well struck short corner. Goalkeeper Osbourne pulled off some incredible saves but was unable to prevent Ashton from going in at half time with a 6-0 lead. At half time Firth moved to the right of midfield and Doney to the middle, Cowen was brought on to shore up the defence. These changes made a positive difference to Tavistock as they began to create more, Doney and Ali in particular demonstrated a good understanding between themselves. As the half wore on either side could have scored, Doney and Eadie going closest for Tavistock. In the end though neither side were able to increase the score as each cancelled the other out.
