THE Tidy Tavi litter picking teams were out and about in Tavistock last Saturday morning clearing litter from the town's streets once again.

Eighteen volunteers, some sporting festive accoutrements, enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies at the Meadowlands Leisure Centre before setting out on a crisp but sunny morning.

Large quantities of rubbish were removed from the layby on the A386 beyond Anderton Lane and also from the area around Morrisons. Other parts of the town were relatively litter-free despite the recent festive events and Christmas shopping.

The group organisers would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped out this year and would encourage anyone who would like to join in during 2015 to meet in the Meadowlands Café at 10am on the first Saturday in any month.

Plans are being considered to accommodate those who cannot commit to Saturday mornings but the problem of arranging properly organised outings during the short days of winter have still to be resolved.

The organisers have made a further appeal to anyone owning a large vehicle or trailer who would be willing to collect bags of rubbish from the litter picking teams around town to contact them.

This would only involve a few round trips between 11am and midday once a month but would be extremely helpful to Tidy Tavi's efforts to keep Tavistock tidy and litter free.
