ORGANISERS say the first wellbeing drop-in session at Moreton-hampstead Hospital was 'very successful'.
The sessions are meant to give the public an opportunity to meet the local NHS community nursing and therapy team and find out how the staff support people to live healthily and independently at home.
People can discuss any health, wellbeing or fitness concerns they may have, relating to themselves or someone else.
The first such session gave the public an opportunity to meet the team, take a basic health check, ask for advice and much more.
Hilary Taylor, a lead occupational therapist for the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, said: 'The open day was very successful.
'Around 30 people attended for a variety of reasons, including health checks from the nurses, advice from the occupational therapists about managing at home, equipment to improve independence and quality of life and advice for carers.
'Several people also wanted advice from the physiotherapists about exercises.'
Three people referred themselves to the new strength and balance classes at the hospital, which assist those who suffer from falls or are afraid of falling.
There are now enough patients on the waiting list to start a new block of weekly classes in the new year.
After a break in January, the next wellbeing drop-in session will take place on Tuesday, February 24 from 10am to 1pm and will have a theme of falls prevention and safety at home.
The event on Tuesday, March 24 will have a focus on diabetes.
