A GROUP of youngsters have 'done themselves proud' after organising a community barbecue for families living in Monksmead, Tavistock.
On Sunday, September 2, a group of young people who attend Tavistock Methodist Church held a community barbecue in Monksmead Play Park.
The team has spent the last few weeks organising the event, hand-delivering invitations to more than 250 houses in the estate.
Around 80 residents turned out for the event, enjoying games and face-painting led by the youngsters, and a delicious barbecue lunch served by the youngsters and cooked by adults from the church.
James Richardson, family worker at Tavistock Methodist Church, said: 'I'm so proud of the young people for their desire to serve their community and have a positive impact on the town.
'One happy resident told me it was the best thing she'd ever known to happen in Monksmead.
'The young people have put a lot of hard work and effort into the barbecue, and they have done themselves proud.
'It was a really enjoyable event with a great community spirit and one that was a real success.'
James expressed thanks to everyone who helped make the barbecue such a success.
