AN exhibition of photographs by Chris Chapman which focuses on the rural scene is currently on view at the Salar Gallery, Hatherleigh.
The exhibition, called 'Last Days at Truelove Farm', is a remarkable chronicle of a way of life brought to a poignant close as circumstances force a family to sell up and move out. Chris Chapman's photography traces the lives of the Dennis family at Truelove Farm on the fringe of Dartmoor before, during and after the sale.
His unique rapport with his subjects allows us to witness the story of one family's dislocation from a farm they lived in and worked on for five generations from a very human perspective.
Chris moved to Dartmoor in 1975. Since then he has compiled a unique record of local life on and around the moor. Last year, he celebrated 25 years of photographing the moor with a stunning book of black and white images, 'Wild Goose and Riddon, The Dartmoor Photographs of Chris Chapman'.
The photographic exhibition is open Tuesday 10am to 5pm; Wednesday 10am to 1pm; Thursday and Friday 10am to 5pm, closed between 1pm and 2pm; Saturday 10am to 4pm, closed 1pm to 2pm.
Gallery proprietor Sally Vick is holding a special Sunday afternoon opening on September 2 from 2pm to 5pm when there will be cream teas in the gallery courtyard. This event is to raise funds for the new community centre and the Green Wellie Appeal.
The exhibition runs until September 15.
