TAVISTOCK Swimming Club travelled to Dawlish on Saturday to compete against Crediton, Dawlish, Launceston and Torquay.

Dawlish took 1st place with Tavistock in 2nd , Torquay 3rd, Launceston 4th and Crediton 5th. It was a very enjoyable gala with many races having extremely close finishes.

There were 21 individual personal best times recorded and 29 personal bests in the relays.

Chief coach Margaret Gardner was delighted by the terrific effort put in by the swimmers who are just starting a new season of competitions.

The club has quite a full programme of competitions and this was a promising start.

First places were gained by Iain Court, Joshua Lake, Rebecca Mills, Eve Hellewell (2), Caroline Ball (2), Gavin Court (2), Matthew Henry.

Individual personal best times: Christopher Ralph (2), Iain Court (2), Jessica Barnes, Nicholas Jarman, Freddy Luesby, Joshua Lake, William Crocker, Katherine Chalmers, Rebecca Mills, Eve Hellewell, Will Feather, Michael Best, Sebastian Lee, Gavin Court, Caroline Ball, Tamar Preston, Harriet Sparks.

Other team members were Amy Warnett, Jake Broom, Claire Chalmers, Bethan Ayling, Joshua Bancroft, Lauren Cooke, Holly Chinn, Melissa Taylor, Michael Best, Sam Broom, Rachael Kelly, Kyle Bayliss.

The previous weekend, a number of swimmers took part in the City of Plymouth 2000 Championships and Age Group Competition.

Personal best times were achieved by Will Feather (4), Jessica Barnes (3), Nick Jarman (3), Joshua Lake (3), Phillip Webb (3), Caroline Ball (2), Freddy Luesby (2), Kirsty Best (2), Joshua Bancroft (2), Matthew Henry (1), Samantha Jarman (1), Amy Warnett (1), Michael Best (1), Gregory Barnes (1).

Matthew Henry achieved three first places, one second place and one third place in his age group, Nicholas Jarman a first, second and third place, Kirsty Best one first place, Caroline Ball a second and third place, Will Feather two second places.

New Club records for age groups were recorded by Nicholas Jarman (2), Matthew Henry, Will Feather and Caroline Ball.

The same weekend Eve Hellewell took part in the Exeter Open Sprint Meet and achieved a first place in one event and reached the finals in three other events.
