Tavistock RFC U13s 49 Saltash RFC U13s 0 TAVISTOCK set the pace in the opening minutes with a high level of possession and open play with some strong driving running by Aidan Mason. The initial pressure in the Saltash half was rewarded with an early try from Jez Massy Birch finishing a cross pitch series of swift passes. This was followed by the first of a trio from Jake Johns — providing excellent running cover for the ball carrier who released at pace as he was tackled by a Saltash defender. The third try was superbly delivered through a short drive by Dominic Dewson with a ball taken up field by Sam Northmore and retained by a combination of well positioned players within the Saltash ten metre area. Will Colton delivered the fourth try from a break and uncatchable sprint from just inside the Saltash half which was to be replicated in the sixth try later in the game by Sam Northmore on the opposite wing. A blindside dummy from the back of a maul in the Saltash 22 by Frazer Bayliss was deftly passed to Henry Kisby for the delivery of the fifth try. A second try from Jake Johns again demonstrated the advantages of back up to the runner as Tom Russon was stopped short of the line during an inspired sprint along the wing and was able to skilfully offload the ball. After some excellent 'stealing' from the front of the line out, Martin Budden was on hand to deliver a try as Chris Swash was stopped just short of the line. In the closing minutes Jake Johns completed his hat trick with a break through undefended space to ground under the posts for Henry Kisby to convert. Tavistock protected the ball through teamwork by both backs and forwards. The continuing high availability of squad members once again allowed valuable match experience for emergent players and out of position play for more established players. The scoreline did not give full credit to Saltash's strong and spirited defence.
