TAVITOCK Swimming Club on Saturday took part in an inter-club gala hosted by Torridgeside in which three club records were broken.
The competition was won convincingly by Torridgeside A with Tavistock taking second place followed by Barnstaple and Torridgeside B. Many of the swimmers were swimming up an age group in some events and credit must go to them for giving each and every race their best effort.
Peter Freedman swam to first place in the opening race, the open 4 x 25m IM, following this with a win in the open 100m back and the open 100m free, in which he produced a personal best and club record time.
Gavin Court also had three individual first places: 14/15yrs 100m in a personal best and club record time, 12/13 yrs 100m free and 12/13yrs 100m fly.
Eve Hellewell took two first places:14/15yrs 100m back in a personal best time and the 14/15yrs 100m breast. Beth Hellewell had a successful swim to take first place in the open 100m fly in a personal best time.
Another club record was achieved by Caroline Ball who swam to first place in the 11 years 50m back in a personal best time.
Personal best times were achieved by Iain Court, Katherine Chalmers, Sarah Szczepanski, Hanna Woodside, Richard Freedman (2), Christopher Ralph, Rachael Kelly and Caroline Ball. New club members representing Tavistock for the first time were Sarah and Robert Szczepanski.
Chief coach,Margaret Gardner, was very satisfied with the team's performance and will be pleased to hear from anyone either wishing join the club or requiring further information. Training sessions take place on Sunday evenings (club night), Mondays, Wednesdays (two sessions), Thursdays and Fridays (two sessions).
