A WEST Devon team of adventurers has given an impressive boost to Children's Hospice South West, after completing the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge.
The challenge involves climbing mountains in England, Scotland and Wales — within 24 hours.
The team, consisting of Chris Greatrex, Will Tomkins, Paul Greenhill, Mat Cole, Lee Greatrex, Mat Venner and Dan Langley, with driving and cooking back-up from Jane Greatrex, completed the challenge, raising £4,100 for the hospice in the process.
Their challenge started at Fort William in Scotland, where they scaled Ben Nevis. They then drove to the Lake District to tackle Scafell Pike, before finishing the gruelling 24-hours by climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales, completing the event in 22 hours 53 minutes.
Team member Will Tomkins said: 'It was honestly the hardest thing I've ever done, I couldn't walk properly for a week after, my knees were shot!'
Will said the most difficult part of the challenge was climbing Scafell in the dark, with only head torches to see the way.
The team has paid tribute to everyone who sponsored them and to Langdon Transport, who supplied the fuel for the trip.
'The money just kept coming in, it was fantastic,' said Will.
