THREE ladies will be lacing up their trainers and pounding the roads of Plymouth tomorrow as they take part in the Plymouth 10K in a bid to raise funds for cancer outreach centres.

Debbie Cope, who owns a static caravan at Langstone Manor Holiday Park, Moortown, only took up running last year at the age of 55, encouraged by two of the staff at the holiday park Kathy Allen and Yvonne Colley.

The three ladies now run together around Tavistock and Dartmoor and aimed to take part in the Plymouth 10K as a way of raising money for the Triangle Outreach Centres.

Debbie said: ‘I was very much involved with the outreach centre in Kingsbridge when it first started as I was a carer for my best friend. I now own a caravan at Langstone Manor and spend a lot of my time there.

‘Yvonne and Kathy both work on the site and they encouraged me to start running last summer. I could not run more than a few yards but gradually built the distance up. We often train together on the roads around Moortown, Drake’s Trail and Tavistock Golf Course — early mornings, all weathers.

‘We chose the Plymouth 10K, my first, as a target to aim for and decided that as representing a local business, we wanted to raise money for a local cause.

‘All of us have family and friends who have been affected by cancer and that is why we chose the Triangle Outreach Centres.’

The Triangle Outreach Centres are drop-in support centres in Tavistock, Liskeard and Kingsbridge, staffed by experienced cancer nurses, therapists and trained volunteers to help cancer patients and their families navigate through their treatment and recovery closer to home.

The ladies are hoping to raise as much money as possible from the race on Sunday (October 7).
