THREE candidates are contesting the Tavistock North Ward seat on West Devon Borough Council at an election to be held on Thursday February 7. The vacancy has arisen following the resignation of Conservative Shaun Watchorn from the borough council last month. The candidates are Adam Duncan Bridgewater, of Beech Close, Tavistock (Liberal Democrats), Vanni Cook, of Old Exeter Road, Tavistock (Green Party) and David John Whitcomb of Fitzford Cottages, Tavistock (Local Conservative). The election will be held at Tavistock Methodist Church Hall and the hours of polling are 7am until 10pm. Electors are advised that the last day for receipt of and changes to existing absent votes, and applications to be on the electoral register is Wednesday January 23. Postal votes will be sent out on Friday January 25. The final day to appoint a proxy is Wednesday January 30. The current political make-up of the 31-seat council is Conservatives 13, Independents 10, Liberal Democrats 7, and the one vacant seat.
