Walkham Valley v Moorhaven IN cloudy conditions, Walkham Valley entertained Moorhaven. Moorhaven batted first and soon lost Smith run out, and Brown bowled by Roger Smith. Mc Court fell to a catch by Bill Tynan off Chris Spreadbury, and the guests were in a mess at 9 for 3. Price and Nabile set about repairing the damage and racking up runs in a partnership of 40, before Nabile was caught for 14 off Ray Spreadbury and Price went in the same over caught at short mid off by Roger Smith for 19. Garrett took toll of some sloppy bowling, though Graham Vincent accounted for O?Kelly and Treweeks in successive overs, both clean bowled. Leppard joined Garrett and the plunder continued, with both retiring undefeated on 25 and 26 respectively. A sharp run out off his own bowling by Tim Baxter and steadier bowling by him, James Hills, James Vincent and Rich Berry kept down what was threatening to be an embarrassing score. Hills accounted for the aggressive Ali for 11 when he bowled him, and Fry was run out late on to leave Moorhaven on a daunting 157 for 9. C Spreadbury had 1 for 16, R Smith 1 for 11, R Spreadbury 2 for 17, G Vincent 2 for 12 and J Hills for 1 for 17, but the Jekyll and Hyde bowling performance was characterised by 21 wides or no balls - an extra three and a half overs of batting for Moorhaven in a 20 overs match! Faced with the prospect of chasing about 8 an over, Walkham Valley got off to an unfortunate start when Bill Tynan feathered a catch to the keeper off O?Kelly. It was sheer, unremitting grind from then on for the partnership of James Hills and Rich Berry, neither of whom could make much impression on the hostile attack of the visitors, and the scoreline told the story after 12 overs with the hosts on 37 for 1. Garrett?s introduction to the attack produced some respite, though R Berry perished to him for 13, caught in the deep. Roger Smith set about the later order bowlers to the tune of an impressive 25 not out, including four boundaries, while James Hills also retired on 26, having seen off the main threat. Kevin Baxter flirted briefly with some adventurous shots but fell to Garrett. James Vincent and Chris Spreadbury introduced a welcome element of carnage to the situation and boundaries were struck regularly. Spreadbury relished his executioner role and smashed 29 runs from only 7 balls, including three huge sixes, Vincent weighing in with two boundaries. Walkham Valley finished on 123 for 3, a deficit of 34. Garrett had 2 for 17, and O?Kelly 1 for 4, but the economic bowling of their first six bowlers contrasted sharply with the profligacy of Walkham Valley?s attack and sealed a worthy win for Moorhaven.
