Oke Ladies' seconds 3

Tavistock Ladies' seconds 1

THE first quarter of the game saw the teams evenly matched with end-to-end hockey and both teams looking dangerous on the break. The dead-lock was broken when Oke centre forward Kim Davey picked up the ball in midfield and made a solo run using her skill and speed to beat the Tavistock defence and score Oke's first goal.

Tavistock retaliated by playing fast attacking hockey.  The Oke half backs Rachel Laidlaw and Nat Dennis had to mark the Tavistock wings tightly. Slick passing by the Tavistock forwards outwitted the Oke defense and Judy Miller popped in the Tavy equaliser.

Oke's captain Sarah Jones demonstrated strong tackling and good ball distribution.  The home side were awarded a penalty corner just before the half time whistle.  Hannah Whiteley hit the ball to Kim Davey at the top of the circle who struck it into the net.

The second half saw a stiff battle between these teams. Oke's Whiteley sisters, Hannah and Sophie, played the inside forwards and showed their solid defending skills as well as looking dangerous in attack, thwarting Tavistock's midfield moves.

The visitors were unlucky not to equalise when they were awarded a penalty corner but it was cleared off the line by full back Jo Drake. With five minutes remaining Oke were awarded a penalty corner - Sarah Jones deftly fed Kim Davey, who hammered the ball into the back of the net for her hat-trick.
